Conflicting orders?

Funny enough. It was deja vu all over again.

I sometimes find myself giving conflicting statements with people who I am closely associated with and  at the end of the day, I am the one who has to swallow what I said. Giving clear instructions are essential at times. In fact, most high income earners or leaders are required to give clear instructions to their subordinates. I'm not being sexist, but I can say generally most of these are men. For example, Barrack Obama, Napolean, Bill Gates, Stever Jobs, etc.. have to make important decisions then give clear instructions. Napolean couldn't have said "I want to conquer Asia" and after his Generals have sent his troops out sailing the seven seas. He sacks his General because... "I thought I've told you I wanted Europe you buffoon!"

Here is an interesting story that I can relate to.

On one fine day, David was asked to drive his mother to two different banks. The mother received an instruction from his father to withdraw money from St. George bank and to deposit the money into Bankwest for the purpose of telegraphic fund transfer (TT) to a foreign bank account. Bear in mind, David's father is a busy working man and has no time to do petty things like this and also stressed out from work. Now, David's mother has followed all instructions and upon arriving at Bankwest, received a call from dad and asked to find out the cost for TT at Bankwest, St George and Commonwealth Bank. However, Moms already know and told Dads that TT from St. George requires a lot of paperwork and documents and not the other two banks, furthermore, St. George does offer cheaper TT cost and better exchange rates compared to two other banks. However, David's dad being David's dad, insists on going back to St. George when these two banks are located quite far apart to try their luck. Unfortunately, bad luck. What moms said was true. So the trip to Bankwest was a wasted trip because at the end of the day, the cash was still with mom and was in nobody's bank account.

So which bank did David's mom eventually go to after this round about? Commonwealth. After a bit of yadah yadah from David's dad saying, "Why didn't you find out which bank offers the best rates?" When the clear instruction from the horse's mouth was to TT the funds from Bankwest.

Conflicting orders can cause an emotional wreck and thinking it through when making a decision could well save your life. Relating to David's story and from a more personal perspective if memory serves me right, conflicting myself can cause annoyance, and annoyance can lead to many things like dislike, disappointment, hate or even murder(exaggeration). I experienced this before and I'm sure most of you have too, I experience it more often when I have other things in mind to worry about and my mind is somewhere else when I was giving an order or statement. And when that happens, it usually turns out in conflict from what I had made before.

I think the best way to resolve this is to delegate some of the work and give the person the decision rights. That way, the person will have to make the appropriate decisions. Of course, clearly convey an objective. For example, if the objective is to conquer Europe and you are an evil dictator like Adolf Hitler, let your Generals do their job but consult you before they implement the strategy, or if for example in David's case, let his mom have the rights to decide which bank to use. If the dad's objective is "die-die"/want to save every cent, then of course David's mom would know what to do, she will have to fill up the forms and provide the necessary documents to St. George bank.

Sometimes it's best to give guidelines or boundaries for 'what if' scenarios, what if I ran out of credit for my mobile phone, should I buy RM30 or RM50 reload? or should I sign up for a post paid plan. Hmmm, this supermarket sells 10 cents more than my neighbourhood 7-11, what should I do? MY SUGGESTION! go back to school and learn how to draw a friggin flow chart!

Visiting my ancestors in Sandakan

This post generally talks about my hometown - Sandakan when he was there on a short eco-trip. His first half of the post talks about how shabby my town is which obviously sparked pointless debates and hate comments in his chat box. Some found it offensive but some found it quite true. Though all his facts were not spot on, but I mean, common his blog is not a travelog anyway. So why are these people so angry about? Besides, if you look at the pictures he posted on the blog, it is a fact that my town does actually look like that. If you wanna read how he wrote about my town better you visit his blog guys!

Then came the second half of the post. Where he wrote up about this trips down the Kinabatangan River and Sepilok and how he admired the true beauty of Sandakan.

People didn't focus on the second half of his post, but his first half.
After reading about 150+ comments, I thought I would leave a comment or so for my fellow town folks.

This is what I wrote:
Thats the problem everytime I go back to sandakan - Facing yobs on the streets. Those who were angered by this post, you guys are obviously still childish and so very immature please go back to school.

You gotta read it from a different point/s of view people!

And thanks for showing the whole world how well educated & emotional we are.
can't you all take a joke and have fun reading once in a while..? If you can't.. I suggest you take a hike up bukit bendera and read the news.

Being angry just shows how 'under-developed' you are.

Time to grow up you kiddos.

This is nothing about under developed, this piece of shit is misleading and contain certain level of insulting.

This kenny boy, no doubt he have the right to go wherever he want, to see whatever he want, to talk whatever he want and to write whatever he want. Everyone has the right to do so, to speak freely. But, in the same time, be responsible to what was talked, spoke, told and wrote, by avoiding giving wrong or uncertain informations, specially in the public.

And you, my friend, are truly a cowardly chicken. Because people shit on your head, and you seems to take it as a joke and actually having fun with it.

We people from Sandakan are well educated and well EQed. And we all did went to not only school, but schools. We are all schooled.

You, are the one who "under developed"

Kenny has already clarified that he loves Sandakan. I think for once you should improve your literacy & comprehension level.

I think if CNN reported on and chose ONLY one and only Malaysian and IF by God's mercy is YOU. Then yes, the whole world will think Malaysians are whatever you wanna call them.

I'm sure the whole world knows how to differentiate if the story is pretty much faked.

I want to ask you, did you buy your degree or cert being an audiologist. I seriously can't understand how you can not take in the idea and already read what Kenny said and commented.

And the pictures don't lie, as much as I love my home town too as a Sandakanite. I must agree to a certain extent that our town area is pretty shabby except for the newer developments and after more than 50 years of independence and development, thats just HOW far we came.

So what do you expect him to say? our roads are paved with gold?
But we are blessed with nature, so it's up to the readers whether they like this kinda travel and adventure.

And do you reckon every tourist who comes to sandakan will refer to only one source for their travel information?

Well like kenneth told me, is no point arguing with audiologist anymore. He humors me.

Well, I need some excitement in my life, So I'll see how replies back and get back to you guys as soon as I receive a reply. Haha. Yeah and to be honest, no offence yeah those from Sandakan, I'm not implying that it's you because if you acted like the fool audiologist I will not hang out with you or talk to you, many people I know or knew still act so childish even when they are 20 years old or older. It's like they still want to play with lego guns,and stay at that mentality when there are better things to do out there.

And yes I did feel a little bit offended with his post but that is just the truth what our town is. Though he didn't mention about many other secrets that only the locals know.
